Call for Papers: Children’s Civil and Political Rights in a Time of Pandemic

The Canadian Journal of Children’s Rights/Revue Canadienne des Droits des Enfants welcomes submissions for the 2021 Issue: Children’s Civil and Political Rights in a Time of Pandemic.   This issue will focus on how scholars, advocates, policymakers, practitioners and students understand and explore children’s and young people’s experiences in a time of pandemic. We are interested in articles that reflect a rights-respecting approach to address the civil and political rights of children in a time of COVID-19 in the contexts of law, health, education, policy, activism, and practice, among others.

The Editors invite manuscripts in English and French from scholars, researchers, students, community partners, and young people. Articles based on original research may be submitted to the academic section; descriptive and policy oriented manuscripts are suitable for the open section. We also offer young people an opportunity to publish in the youth section and the journal includes a graduate student section that is peer-reviewed.

CJCR publishes manuscripts on children’s rights from scholars working across interdisciplinary fields in Canada and globally. All submissions undergo a peer review process - double-masked review for academic section submissions and single masked review for open section submissions.

Deadline for submissions of manuscripts is April 1, 2021.

2020 ISSUE CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS:  Children’s Rights and Education: Respecting Children’s Rights at School

Deadline:  April 1, 2020

The Editors welcome manuscripts in English and French from academics, researchers, students, community partners and young people that address Children’s Rights and Education: Respecting Children’s Rights at School. The issue will include manuscripts that explore children’s rights in school settings within the broader theme of education, especially where advocacy, research and experience are closely entangled. Sample questions and topics include, but are not limited to:

     How is education responding to the issue of diversity in school environments in rights- respecting ways?

     Children’s rights educational research in underrepresented and underserved communities

     School as a space for realizing children’s rights

     Youth participation and rights in schools

     Rights-informed practices and programs in schools

     Children’s rights, teaching and learning

     Social inequalities, education and children’s rights

     Ethical issues, education and children’s rights

     Children’s rights, policy, and practice

The Editors encourage a variety of contributions including scholarly essays, research articles, advocacy and policy papers, descriptions of programs and practices; personal statements, essays and artistic expression such as poetry are welcome in the youth section. Submissions should make the significance of children’s rights clear and explicit in addressing an issue that intersects children’s rights and education. Academic articles should provide a clear theoretical/methodological framework.

Each manuscript submission will undergo a masked peer review process: double masked review of scholarly articles and single masked review for submissions to the open section. The editors will review youth submissions to verify their appropriateness to CJCR's focus and scope.

The deadline for submission of manuscripts (up to 8,000 words plus references for scholarly articles) for the 2020 Issue is April 1, 2020.
